Abstract

Traffic accidents have become a serious problem in urban areas, including Medan City, with high fatality rates and significant economic losses. The lack of accurate and accessible information about accident-prone locations makes it difficult for authorities to take effective preventive measures. This study aims to design and build a web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) for mapping traffic accident-prone locations in Medan City. The system was developed using the Waterfall methodology, consisting of requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. The system integrates digital maps from OpenStreetMap, accident data from the police department, and spatial analysis to categorize locations into three levels: low, medium, and high risk. The system features an interactive map, accident data management, risk categorization, trend analysis, filtering, dashboard, reporting, and geotagging. Data were collected through interviews with traffic police officers and observation of accident data in Medan City. Testing was conducted using Black Box Testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with 30 respondents. The results show that the system successfully maps accident-prone locations with 90% accuracy, increases accident data analysis efficiency by 70%, and achieves a user satisfaction score of 4.32 (very good category). This study concludes that the web-based GIS is effective in mapping traffic accident-prone locations and can be implemented in other cities to support traffic safety planning
