Abstract

Abstract

Library management information systems play a vital role in supporting academic activities in higher education institutions. However, many libraries still face challenges in managing book collections, tracking borrowing transactions, and providing personalized book recommendations to users. Conventional library systems often rely on manual records and lack intelligent features to help users discover relevant books based on their interests and borrowing history. This study aims to design and build a web-based library management information system with a book recommendation feature using the Collaborative Filtering algorithm. The system was developed using the Waterfall methodology, consisting of requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. The Collaborative Filtering algorithm employs user-based filtering to identify similarities between users based on their borrowing history and recommend books that similar users have borrowed. The system features book catalog management, member management, borrowing and returning transactions, book search, personalized recommendations, dashboard, and reporting. Data were collected through interviews with librarians and observation of library operations. Testing was conducted using Black Box Testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with 30 respondents. The results show that the system successfully improves book search efficiency by 65%, increases borrowing transaction accuracy from 70% to 95%, and achieves a recommendation relevance score of 82% based on user feedback. The UAT results show a user satisfaction score of 4.35 (very good category). This study concludes that the web-based library management system with Collaborative Filtering recommendation is effective in improving library services and can be implemented in other higher education institutions.
